Head rot in onions is a persistent problem. The food chain project Uireka in the Netherlands conducts research into, among other things, the control of top rot in the cultivation of seed onions.
Uireka investigated whether the protection of onions against head rot can be improved by using crop protection products based on decision support systems. The disease model of RMA was one of the systems examined in the 2019 trial year.
With the RMA disease model, the percentage of onions with head rot after 4 months of storage was 4,3% compared to 9,8% with a normal practice schedule. This is a good result with 3 targeted spraying against head rot based on the weather conditions. Read more in the full report (in Dutch).
